Spring Skip Hire St Helens: What You Need to Know Before You Book
Spring is consistently our busiest time for skip hire across St Helens and the North West. The combination of better weather, longer days and the annual urge to clear out and tidy up means more skip enquiries come in between March and May than any other period.
Do You Need a Permit?
If the skip will sit entirely on your private driveway or property, you don’t need a permit. If any part of the skip will be on a public road or pavement — which is common on terraced properties in St Helens where there’s no off-road parking — you’ll need a road permit from St Helens Council.
We can arrange the permit on your behalf as part of the booking process. Just let us know the situation when you call and we’ll sort it out.
Which Skip Size for a Spring Clearance?
For a typical garden clearance — cutting back, clearing borders, removing an old shed or patio furniture — a midi skip is usually sufficient. For a full garden redesign or a combined house and garden clearance, a maxi skip gives you more headroom.
If you’re unsure, call us and describe what you’re clearing — we can usually give you a good steer on size without needing to visit.
What Can’t Go in a Spring Skip
Garden waste, soil, bricks, furniture, general household rubbish, timber and metal are all fine. Mattresses can go in but usually carry a small surcharge. Fridges, freezers, TVs and monitors need to be booked in advance as WEEE items. Paint, solvents and chemicals cannot go in a standard skip.
